Famous Argentinian soccer player, Lionel Messi, wins his sixth Ballon d’Or. He won his first Ballon d’Or in 2009. Messi has also won multiple other awards like the European Golden Shoe, FIFA World Player of the Year, and Footballer of the Year of Argentina. Messi has played for FC Barcelona since October 2004 when he was 17. His first award was the FIFA World Youth Championship Golden Shoe in 2005.
December 2nd, 2019, Lionel Messi, forward for FC Barcelona and the Argentinian National team, won his 6th Ballon d’Or at a ceremony in Paris, France. He said to CNN reporter, Ben Church, “As my wife said, you must never stop dreaming but always work to improve and continue to enjoy. I am very lucky, I am blessed.” Messi celebrated this moment with friends, teammates, and family.
Christiano Ronaldo, rival to Messi, came in 3rd place and was not there to see Messi win his award. Ronaldo did not attend the ceremony knowing that he didn’t even get on the podium. It has been said that it would be an embarrassment if he went. “Messi is in the history of football,'' Ronaldo told Piers Morgan. To Give Me Sport, Ronaldo said, “But I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him. I’d love it, I think I deserve it.”
